Favourite Walks – Land’s End to Porthcurno Beach

Land’s End Peninsula is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and regularly plays host to visitors from around the world. It boasts exceptional scenery including beautiful ocean views and dramatic cliffs, as well as an array of attractions. In my view one of the best ways to appreciate the scenery is to take a walk along the coastal path.

We started the path at Land's End and walked towards Porthcurno Beach. This is a 2-3 hour walk, approximately 5 miles one way. The path is relatively easy and the views are stunning the whole way!

First stop along the coastal path is the Enys Dodnan Arch, you get great views of this on approach and from Pordenack Point, where the path goes off onto the headland for a nice viewpoint.

Just before you get to Nanjizal Beach you will get a view of Carn Boel, a rock stack bathed in turquoise water. The remote Nanjizal Beach is a great place to stop for a break and take in the views of the Song of the Sea Cave.

Beyond Nanjizal Beach, the coastline gets very dramatic with interesting cliffs and rock formations.

After around two hours , you will finally get to Porthcurno, a welcoming village, home to the famous open-air cliff-top Minack Theatre and a fantastic beach. Although you cannot see the stunning theatre from the coastal path (despite walking right past it), you will get see the idyllic Porthcurno Beach. The descent down to the beach  is quite steep and rocky so take care. Once you get down to the beach, be sure to sink your feet into the soft sand and dip into the sea.

Practical information

There aren't many facilities along the way so be sure to bring water and snacks with you. There are cafes and toilets at the starting point at Land's End, and then at the end in Porthcurno. If you have time , do visit the Minack Theatre as its truly unique and beautiful. You must purchase a ticket to go inside, at the time of writing this had to be pre booked as well due to covid. They frequently put on plays so if you want the full experience you can book to visit a show, otherwise a simple walk around the theatre and gardens is a wonderful experience.

Remember to double the time if you are doing a return journey, whether starting at Land's End or in Porthcurno, there will be parking available, however this will be chargeable.

Remember to wear suitable footwear and sunscreen and its always a good idea to have wind/rain proof layers as the weather can change!
