For the more adventurous kinds seeking a wild beach away from the crowds...this is it. Lantic Bay is a stunning, serene beach offering clear turquoise waters, seclusion and lush green cliffs. It just oozes nature.
What to do there:
The ocean tends to be quite calm on this side so its nice for swimming, do take care however as there can be strong currents and no lifeguard. This beach is great for relaxation, beach games, water activities and hiking the surrounding area. The beach has a mixture of pebbles and lovely soft sand close to the water. There are fascinating caves to explore at low tide. Bring a picnic and enjoy the stunning nature.
How to get there:
There is a National Trust car park for Lantic Bay about half an hour drive from Rockleigh Place if you cross by ferry or 38 minutes if you drive around river Fowey. The beach is a 15 minutes walk from the car park. You will need to walk through some fields and down a pretty steep path to get down to the beach so it may not be suitable for everyone. If you fancy a bit more activity you can hike here from Polruan (easily reached by Ferry from Fowey). The hike takes just under an hour. If you are taking ferries be sure to check the times.
When to visit:
You can visit any time, the car park, beach and trails are open throughout the year. Summer is great if you want to get into the water however if you have a good wetsuit you can go in any time. In the spring and summer you get a beautiful green backdrop of the steep cliffs surrounding the beach. Due to the difficult access this beach doesn't get too busy, even during peak times so is great to escape the crowds.
Practical information:
This is a wild beach, there are no facilities and access involves a steep pathway down to the beach. There can be strong currents and no lifeguard so if you are in the water, do take care and don't go too far out. Be sure to bring everything you need with you and leave behind only footprints.
