5 Reasons to Visit Mevagissey

1. The Harbour

Mevagissey is filled with character and authenticity and is one of the most picturesque harbours in Cornwall. This lovely old town was once the centre of Cornwall’s pilchard fishery and its harbour is still used today by local fisherman.

2. Great food

Wandering through the winding streets, there are a number of excellent sea food restaurants and cafes to be found. Why not try Salamander, a highly rated restaurant with a laid back atmosphere, serving freshly caught seafood. Or just grab a fish and chips and sit by the harbour admiring dozens of small fishing boats.

3. Sea Activities

There are a number of local fishermen offering amazing fishing trips (book ahead during peak season). Alternatively you could take a ferry to Fowey or a boat trip around the coastline. These are great for spotting seals and even dolphins! You could also hire a small private boat and explore the coastline and beautiful clear waters by yourself.

4. Local Attractions

There is something for all ages, an aquarium and a museum right in the village as well as a model railway. If you have more time you could also visit the nearby Lost Gardens of Heligan.

5. Souvenirs

With a variety of independent gift shops, book shops and art galleries, Mevagissey is a great place to pick up some Cornish souvenirs.

Mevagissey is situated in mid Cornwall on the south coast, only a 20 minute drive from Rockleigh Place. If visiting by car there is a large carpark just outside the village, from there its a couple of minutes walk into town. Its great to visit at any time of the year, during peak season it is advisable to book ahead for boat/fishing trips and evening meals at restaurants.
