Favourite Walks – The Dodman Point

I don't know if it were the warm autumn hues of the grassland, or the way the low-lying winter sun illuminated the landscape. Whatever it was though, this place had me so immersed in the scenery, I don't recall if the trail was easy or difficult, or even what the ground under my feet looked like. Only that I had to keep stopping to admire the gorgeous views.

The Dodman Point is real gem for coastal walk lovers. There is no bad time to visit, in Autumn and Winter you will enjoy the colours and contrasts, in Spring and Summer the grasslands are filled with wildflowers, so good views are guaranteed.

Only about a half hour drive from Rockleigh Place, there is a free car park near Penare farms from where you can join the trail. There is a short circular trail which leads to the Dodman Cross (the highest headland on the south coast), where you will find stunning views as well as some friendly ponies!

You can continue along the trail to Hemmick Beach - an absolute hidden gem, and if you are feeling adventurous head a bit further up the coastal trail to see ruins and more spectacular views. Don't forget to keep an eye out for Peregrine Falcons!

There are no cafes or pubs along these trails, but plenty of gorgeous spaces for a picnic if the weather is nice. So don't forget to bring along your drinks and snacks...bring a bit extra for the ponies ;-). If you fancy having lunch or dinner after your walking, head to Gorran Haven (19 minutes away) where you will find pubs and cafes.
